Absentee ballot
Anyone registered to vote in Fort Wayne who is unable
to vote at their precinct on Election Day due to any of
the following reasons qualifies to vote absentee:
- Voter expects to be absent from the county on
election day
- The voter is confined or is caring for a
confined person or is unable to go to the voting
place due to illness, injury, or disability
- The voter is at least 65 years of age
- The voter is an absent uniformed services voter
or an overseas voter
- The voter expects to have official election
duties outside his or her voting precinct
- The voter is scheduled to work at his or her
place of employment during the entire 12 hours that
the polls are open.
Here’s how the absentee ballot process works:
- You have to request that an “absentee ballot
application”. You can call Democratic Party
Headquarters at (260) 478-8239 to request an
absentee ballot application. Or you can
download the application from the State of
Indiana Website. Absentee Ballot applications are
not accepted until August 8, 2007.
- After you return you application, a ballot will
be mailed to you. However, no ballots are mailed out
until September 27th, and then they are mailed out
daily.
- You mail your completed ballot (do not forget to
sign it) to the Election Board. Your ballot has to
be IN the Election Board office my Monday, October
29th at midnight. Ballots arriving after that time,
even with a prior postmark, are not valid.
PLEASE NOTE: If an absentee ballot is mailed to you,
your name will be printed in the pollbook as having cast
a ballot. You will not be allowed to vote at the voting
machine in the polling location unless you obtain a
certificate from the election board stating that you
returned the ballot to them without voting it. You must
present that certificate at the polls in order to vote
on the voting machine.
If you have any questions, please contact the
campaign Headquarters at (260) 469-3033.
