Providing Quality City Services

“While other cities are laying off police officers and firefighters, we’ve continued providing quality city services to residents. Crime is down 14 percent, during one of the worst blizzards in history we got the snow cleared fast, and our new solid waste and recycling program cuts residents’ garbage fees by 1 million dollars. I’m proud that, even in tough times, we’re continuing to do more with less.” Mayor Tom Henry

Even in a Tough Economy Mayor Henry is Providing Quality Services

Because Mayor Henry has kept finances strong, the city has continued to provide the quality city services that residents deserve and expect. While other cities have been forced to cut back, Fort Wayne is doing more with less.

Mayor Henry’s administration is providing quality services to residents:

The New Solid Waste Program

The new solid waste and recycling program is a prime example of the quality city services and programs initiated under the Henry administration.

The new solid waste program demonstrates Fort Wayne’s quality and innovative city services:
  • By switching to a new no-sort container, participation increased from 34 percent to 68 percent.
  • Additionally, the city instituted a competitive bidding process for the garbage contract itself.
  • Increased participation coupled with the new contract is projected to save 1 million dollars.
  • Mayor Henry then passed this savings onto residents, reducing their garbage fees by 1 million dollars. This was the second rate reduction for residents in less than a year.
  • Additionally, a surplus in the solid waste fund generated by the program was used to pay off debt on the recycling carts.
