Meet Tom

Over the last four years, Mayor Henry has worked tirelessly to put Fort Wayne on the path to a brighter future.

He’s kept city finances strong during the worst recession in recent history -- coming in under budget every year, holding spending flat, and putting Fort Wayne on track to pay down 40 percent of city debt by 2015.

And while other cities are cutting police and firefighters, Mayor Henry has continued delivering quality city services. Crime is down 14%, the snow got cleared fast during one of the worst storms in history, and the city's new solid waste program is saving residents 1 million dollars.

Under Mayor Henry's leadership, the city has made smart investments,  cut red tape for businesses that create good jobs, and kept city finances healthy and sound. He's worked hard to keep Fort Wayne moving forward.

Mayor Henry’s commitment to service began in 1971, when he served in the U.S. Army’s Military Police, rising to the rank of Specialist 4. From 1984 to 2004, Henry represented the 3rd District on Fort Wayne’s City Council. He was an innovative and independent voice for city residents, authoring key city ordinances that are still in effect today. He served three years as Council President, and three years as Vice President.

Henry also has extensive experience in the private sector, having owned his own small business for over a decade. He is the President of the Gallant Group, a Fort Wayne insurance agency specializing in healthcare consulting. This professional experience has strengthened Mayor Henry’s commitment to implementing a cost effective, service oriented approach to local government.

Mayor Henry sits on numerous boards, including the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, Neighborhood Health Clinic Board of Directors, Science Central Board of Directors and the Whitington Homes & Services Board of Directors.

A lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, Tom graduated from Fort Wayne Central Catholic in 1970, and earned his bachelors and MBA from the University of St. Francis.

Mayor Henry's family has been in Fort Wayne for over 100 years and 6 generations. He is the second of 17 children. In 1975, Tom married his wife, Cindy, owner of the popular restaurant and pub The Green Frog Inn. Tom and Cindy have a son, a daughter, and two wonderful grandchildren. The Henrys are active members of the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.

Paid for and authorized by Henry for Mayor committee, Mark Andorfer Treasurer.
