Helping Businesses Create Good Paying Jobs
“Helping businesses create good paying jobs is my top priority. I worked with Republicans and Democrats to cut red tape to make it easier to do business in our city, and I’ll continue doing everything I can help to companies grow, expand and hire more workers.”
Mayor Tom Henry
Working with Republicans and Democrats to Cut Red Tape
Mayor Henry worked with Republicans and Democrats to streamline the city’s permitting process – cutting red tape for businesses. By listening to the business community and championing their suggestions, he’s made it easier for companies to expand and create new jobs.
Mayor Henry cut red tape for businesses by:
- Grouping business related departments together in Citizen Square.
- Creating a web portal for developers and an online permitting database.
- Creating an expeditor position to help guide large projects through the system.
- Introducing new training and software for city employees to improve customer relations.
- Using metrics to track cost savings and effectiveness.
Creating an Environment of Economic Growth and Job Creation
Mayor Henry has worked hard to create an environment where businesses can create good paying jobs for residents. He’s layed the groundwork and used every tool in our arsenal to attract new companies and help existing businesses expand.
Mayor Henry helps businesses create jobs by:
- Keeping city finances strong.
- Providing quality city services and creating a high quality of life needed to attract investment.
- Supporting grants to help local small businesses.
- Using TIFF, CRED and Tax Abatements to bring more jobs to Fort Wayne.
- Working with local business groups such as the Northeast Partnership, the Alliance and the Chamber of Commerce.
Fort Wayne is in a Position of Opportunity
There’s no doubt about it, we still have a long ways to go. But we’re beginning to see some encouraging signals that the hard work is paying off. Unlike many other cities, Fort Wayne’s economy is growing as businesses locate, expand and hire in our community.
Under Mayor Henry’s leadership, Fort Wayne’s economy is growing:
- Our economy (GDP) is growing at twice the national average.
- Our manufacturing is growing at four times the national rate.
- Companies like Great Batch, CK Products, Nemcomed, and many others are locating and hiring in our community.
